About Granite Springs

Granite Springs Lodge- South Dakota Pheasant HuntingGranite Springs is managed and operated by Larry, Kevin and Brennan Yeo; Yes we are related. The Yeo family has lived, farmed and owned various businesses in S.D since the early 1960's. However, around 2004 discussions within the family turned to what Kevin was going to do after his service in the Marine Corps, and Larry as he approached his golden years.

Long story, short - we wanted our next venture to be something that was enjoyable, outside, and with a minimum of computer/office work. With this in mind, after mentally running through the next career or work options -- which ranged from casino black jack dealers or whiskey taste testers to judges at the national exotic dancers contest and after careful consideration and determining that those careers might cost half of everything we have earned or will earn -- divorce being such a messy business -- hunting pheasants started to look good.

Once that was determined, Granite Springs just started to fall into place. Larry and our father had owned a sporting goods store in Sioux Falls for over 15 years, which specialized in hunting and reloading. Lee Lake, a private lake 15 miles from Mitchell, SD, came onto the market, and by luck Kevin was able to purchase it. It gives guests one of most beautiful exclusive lakes in eastern SD to fish in, relax by and generally enjoy themselves with. Family and friends owned several thousand acres in the vicinity to which we were able to get hunting rights to. Brennan was in between jobs, and his legs are young enough to handle those hunters who want to go 100mph plus any heavy lifting. And finally, our bosses (the wives) realized that hunting was kind of the lesser of evils regarding the things we'd been considering, and gave their guarded blessings.

So Granite Springs started hunting operations in 2005, with some trail groups to ensure that we could give a quality hunt and had a better idea of what we had gotten ourselves into.

2006 was our first true year of operations. Larry and Brennan did an excellent job of leading all the hunts during the year and we made a lot of memories. Anyway, that's the short version of our story about the start of Granite Springs.

Sincerely,
Kevin
